Training

Residents at Trinity Health Muskegon receive comprehensive, hands-on training across the full spectrum of patient care – from initial evaluation in the Emergency Department through hospitalization, recover, and follow-up in the continuity clinic. Our program features a designated teaching service managed by internal medicine residents and house staff, with 24/7 coverage. On subspecialty rotations, residents often work one-on-one with attending physicians, allowing for individualized instruction and greater responsibility.

Inpatient Training

  • Residents are the primary physicians on the Internal Medicine Teaching Service, admitting and managing a broad range of medical conditions.
  • Dedicated MICU experience provides training in critical care, ventilator management, and multidisciplinary team coordination.
  • Subspecialty rotations offer direct, one-on-one instruction with attending physicians.
  • Residents gain progressive responsibility in patient care, leadership, and teaching as they advance through the program.

Outpatient Training

  • Residents manage their own patient panels in the continuity clinic, developing skills in preventative care, chronic disease management, and transitions of care.
  • The outpatient experience emphasizes high-value, patient-centered care for a diverse and often underserved population.
