Mercy Elite acquires Total Performance to provide complete sports performance and physical therapy capabilities

Only hospital and training facility partnership of its kind in metro Detroit

LIVONIA and WIXOM, Mich. (Dec. 2, 2019) – Total Performance Training Center and Mercy Elite Sports Performance, a member of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, have joined forces to provide the most comprehensive performance training and sports therapy for athletes in metro Detroit.

This partnership will bring together strength and conditioning services and physical therapy using physical therapists, athletic trainers and strength coaches to provide the complete spectrum of athletic performance services under one roof.

"In the past, you might look for speed and strength training from one group, physical therapy somewhere else, and see a separate doctor if there was an injury," said Jim Kielbaso, director of Strength & Conditioning at Total Performance & Mercy Elite. "You'd have to set up appointments at multiple locations, and sort through the advice of several different professionals. Now we are all on the same team, working together to give families exactly what they need. This level of service simply isn’t available anywhere else."

Total Performance, the longest-standing and largest sports performance provider in metro Detroit located inside Total Sports Complex - Wixom, has helped thousands of athletes and families reach their athletic goals since 2002.

"Total Performance is a well-known organization in the sports training community, working with elite teams, high profile athletes, schools and sports teams of all ages," said Chris Bohm, service line administrator for Sports Medicine at St. Mary Mercy Livonia, who leads Mercy Elite. "We are excited to combine our services to provide physical therapy and athletic training side-by-side with a sophisticated level of sports performance training."

Physical therapy will be delivered by Sports Board Certified Physical Therapists who have gone through specialized training to deliver a unique kind of therapy for athletes. Their goal is to address any pain or dysfunction and help athletes get back to practice or training as soon as possible. Integrating this approach with performance training allows athletes to reach their athletic potential and compete at their highest level.

"We have worked with Total Performance for years, and over time, we realized that we could really provide athletes with something unique if we combined our services," said Dan Wolocko, director of Physical Therapy at Total Performance & Mercy Elite, "We integrated the best of strength and conditioning with important clinical aspects to make a seamless new sports performance service that doesn’t currently exist in the market."

MercyElite services are now available at both Total Sports Complex - Wixom located at 30990 Wixom Rd, and Mercy Elite's flagship location in Livonia at 13245 Newburgh Rd. Both locations offer speed/agility, strength training, injury prevention, physical therapy, rehabilitation and more.

In addition to its Newburgh location, Mercy Elite operates inside the Livonia Community Rec Center located at 15100 Hubbard in Livonia as well as inside the St. Joe's Sports Dome on Schoolcraft College. In addition, a new St. Joe's Mercy Elite Sports Center is currently being constructed that will serve as the western suburban home of the Michigan Elite Volleyball Academy. The space will feature 74,000 square feet of multi-purpose space housing eight volleyball courts, a running track, soccer training space, and fitness and rehabilitation space.
