Transforming Heart Care in Muskegon

In October 2022, my life took an unexpected turn when I was admitted to Trinity Health Muskegon with dangerously high blood pressure. Little did I know, this moment would lead me on a profound journey of discovery and generosity.
Under the care of my cardiologist, I underwent a heart catheterization, which revealed severe coronary artery disease and that stents were not a suitable option for me. My condition required open-heart surgery under the expert care of Cardiothoracic Surgeon Tad Boeve, MD, and his team.
In the days leading up to the surgery, I delved into researching Dr. Boeve’s expertise in open heart procedures. Learning of his esteemed reputation within cardiac surgery, it brought me confidence during a challenging time.
The procedure, which included a triple bypass and an aneurysm repair, was successful. I returned home and remarkably, experienced minimal discomfort.
While expressing my gratitude to Dr. Boeve and reflecting on my journey, I discovered there was an opportunity to enhance cardiac care in Muskegon. A Medistim ultrasound device was identified as a crucial asset, capable of improving surgical outcomes and ensuring vein quality for bypass procedures.
To support this, my wife Yvonne, son John, and I proudly contributed to acquiring the first ultrasound, and then a second one, for the Cardiovascular program at Trinity Health Muskegon.
The impact was tangible. By November 2023, Dr. Boeve shared this device had already been used for critical surgeries, affirming its value to our community.
With a vision to do more, we met with key stakeholders — Gary Allore, president; Dr. Tad Boeve; Dr. Justin Grill, chief medical officer; and Claudine Weber, chief philanthropy officer — to position Trinity Health Muskegon as a premier destination for heart surgeries, now and well into the future.
