Program Director Statement

Thank you for your interest in our Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program! I’m excited to introduce you to what makes our program a dynamic and enriching place to train. While our fellowship is relatively new—having earned ACGME accreditation in 2019—we have built a strong foundation for developing exceptional Hematology-Oncology physicians.
One of our program’s greatest strengths is the combination of extensive clinical exposure and robust research opportunities. At Trinity Health Ann Arbor, our fellows train in a diverse and dynamic environment, serving patients from both urban and rural communities across Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and the surrounding areas. This broad patient population ensures exposure to a wide range of disease states, creating an ideal setting for comprehensive learning.
From day one, fellows gain hands-on experience in outpatient continuity clinics, allowing them to follow patients throughout their disease course. They also participate in multidisciplinary cancer clinics—covering Breast, Lung/Thoracic, Gynecologic Oncology, Head and Neck, and Gastrointestinal cancers—while managing cases on our busy inpatient Oncology and Classical Hematology consult services. To meet bone marrow transplant training requirements, fellows rotate at Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit. Additionally, our strong commitment to clinical research through the Michigan Cancer Research Consortium-NCORP provides access to nationally recognized Phase II and III trials, giving fellows valuable exposure to the clinical trial process.
Trinity Health Ann Arbor, originally founded in 1911, has evolved into a leading institution with a growing academic presence. Although we are a community-based hospital, we function much like an academic center, with residency programs in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Ob/GYN, Transitional Year, Family Medicine, Surgery, and Dermatology. In recent years, we’ve expanded our fellowship offerings to include Colorectal Surgery, Infectious Disease, Addiction Medicine, Palliative Care, Pulmonary/Critical Care, and Gastroenterology. This thriving academic environment fosters a culture of learning, collaboration, and professional growth.
Our fellowship faculty includes 19 highly skilled Hematology-Oncology physicians. Fellows also benefit from the expertise of specialists in Gynecologic Oncology, Palliative Care, Radiation Oncology, and various surgical-oncologic subspecialties. Beyond our faculty, an incredible team of oncology-certified nurses, clinical nurse navigators, genetic counselors, pharmacists, nutritionists, and social workers enriches the learning experience.
In just a few years, our fellowship program has made a meaningful impact on patient care in our community while cultivating a supportive and engaging environment for trainees. Fellows are respected as key members of the team and have the opportunity to shape their educational experience. We are committed to your success and invite you to discover all that we have to offer!
