Welcome to Trinity Health! I currently serve as the Manager of Graduate Medical Education and the program manger for the new Sleep Fellowship. In my 20+ years in medical education, I have been involved in program creation and management. I love watching our residents and fellows go out into the world bringing the skills and knowledge that they gained in training to change the world.

I grew up in the outskirts of Grand Rapids on a family apple farm. West Michigan has incredible farms, be sure to check out local options to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables in season. Outside of work, I am a true soccer mom. My son plays club soccer, so we are often found at the soccer field. I also enjoy volunteering, reading, playing pickleball, and trying new restaurants and breweries.

I enjoy practicing adult Sleep Medicine and have an interest in all the different facets within the field. I enjoy the outpatient-based practice style as it is the perfect work and personal life balance. I have gained so much from my mentors during my training and in my early practice days. So I like to give back to my profession and I served as a Board of Director for the Michigan Academy of Sleep Medicine (MASM) from 2016-18. I currently serve as the Secretary-Treasurer for the MASM since 2018. I assisted with the Annual Fall Sleep Conference planning for the MASM. We hosted the Fall conference in Grand Rapids in 2022.

Why I chose to practice in Grand Rapids...

Michigan has been my home for over a decade. I love the 4 seasons and the "reliable Michigan weather." I love the vibrancy Grand Rapids offers. It has the suburban feel with a touch of Big City life.

I especially love the culture of Trinity Health and all the colleagues who work here. They create a special work environment.

Hobbies, Personal Interests, etc.

I am an avid sports fan and especially like the Michigan State Spartans. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family or binging on a Netflix show.

I have had a passion for teaching throughout my life. In addition to resident teaching on a wide variety of neurology and sleep medicine topics, I work with medical students in the MSU-CHM simulation lab and help get residents and fellows teaching opportunities at the med school.

I am the medical director of the Sleep Center and have interests in sleep disorders related to neurology, aka "neurosomnology."

Why I chose to practice in Grand Rapids...

The culture, community and support is the main reason I chose to practice here. This is a phenomenal city, being a big city with a small town feel with an amazing diversity of activities including great restaurants, ArtPrize, and a growing amount of venues for entertainment. In addition, the patients are kind, the community is supportive and the people at Trinity Health are truly pleasurable to work with. In addition, we have family in the West Michigan area.

Hobbies, Personal Interests, etc.

I spend much of my time outside of work with my wife, 2 boys, dog and cats. It's a busy household and there’s always something going on! I love to get out when I can, and you may see me on a hiking trail, playing tennis or attending a game at the Big House in Ann Arbor where we have season tickets to U of M football. I also enjoy exploring new restaurants and attending comedy shows and concerts.

I love the water and get to the Lake Michigan shoreline when I can. I have a pickleball court, table tennis and hot tub at my house and live in the woods, so a relaxing day at home is always enjoyable. I grew up in the Nintendo generation and love playing Zelda and Mario games with my children or watching Superhero movies/shows.

I currently practice sleep medicine, with a special focus on sleep disorders occurring in children, such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia, and movement disorders. I am particularly interested in the impact of sleep disorders on the quality of life in our children, and how successful treatment can help optimize the trajectory of their development and health outcomes.

I enjoy teaching medical students and residents about the field of sleep medicine, especially pediatric sleep medicine. This is a relatively young specialty, and there is wonderful opportunity for more growth in this field, and research in this very rewarding specialty.

Earned Commendation for excellence in teaching medical students as a pediatrics resident - 2004-2006.

Why I chose to practice in Grand Rapids...

My wife and I chose to move back home to Michigan in 2015 after spending our 3 previous years in Virginia Beach, in order to be closer to my parents and brother who live in the Detroit area. This has been the best decision of our lives; nothing can replace the love and caring of family.

Grand Rapids is a wonderful city to raise our children. Having God as the center of our family and knowing that we have a church in Grand Rapids being our family as well, is a priceless treasure.

Hobbies, Personal Interests, etc.

I love spending time with my wife and 3 precious children, exploring various parks around Grand Rapids with them and attending their YMCA classes as much as I can. I also enjoy mentoring young people, playing basketball, and being active serving in our local church in Grand Rapids.

I am currently practicing behavioral sleep medicine, with a specialty in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I). I am a limited licensed educational psychologist (DLLP) as well as an independently licensed mental health counselor (LPC) in the state of Michigan. I have training backgrounds in various mental health settings and have specialty clinical training in women’s health and veteran and military populations. My clinical interests have involved treatments for insomnia, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I have had a passion for integrating behavioral health models of treatment from a holistic perspective and have conducted research on ACE (adverse childhood experiences), chronic pain, and movement-based interventions. I am a lifelong learning and have enjoyed teaching and learning from my students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Grand Rapids has vibrant and diverse opportunities in education, employment, and culture. I was drawn to this area as I was a wonderful place to pursue my career interests as well as provide wonderful opportunities for my family as well. Being close to the great lakes is a bonus!

During my doctoral training I had the pleasure of exploring Massachusetts and much of the East Coast. Being a Midwest girl at heart, I was excited to return to my home state of Michigan to raise my family. I enjoy nature, traveling, hiking, camping, and spending time with my spouse, and two children and German Shepherd.
