Yes. All residents are required to participate in two scholarly activities and are required to present at least one QI project prior to graduation. One Scholarly writing is completed in groups with FPIN (Family Physicians Inquiries Network). Trinity Health Michigan has a comprehensive research department with research nurses and statisticians to help support research projects. The Annual Resident Research Day at Trinity Health Michigan, the Southeast Michigan Center for Medical Education forum, along with other local and regional forums are available to residents to present their research results. We have scholarly activity workshops annually to assist residents with formulating, conducting, and presenting QI projects.
Yes. The residency program pays for USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3 during first year, as well as board certification exams and board review courses during third year. Additional funds are available by request at the discretion of the program.

There are numerous ways that teaching is provided. Every Wednesday afternoon there is a series of lectures provided by attendings, residents and subspecialists. Workshops are offered at the Simulation Lab. During regular clinic hours, preceptors offer case-based evidence-based teaching. Second-year residents on the inpatient service are responsible for regular teaching rounds. Residents are responsible for monthly journal club presentations as well as didactics during Wednesday afternoon sessions. There is also a triennial morbidity and mortality conference coordinated by our director of inpatient medicine.
No. There is no resident housing available.
Yes. A faculty advisor is assigned to each resident to act as a mentor with respect to patient management, academic matters, interpersonal considerations and other matters of importance to the resident.
Yes. This happens frequently, at the graduation ceremony, resident and faculty bonding activities, and holiday parties. There are also multiple informal get-togethers at both resident and faculty homes.
Yes. Residents complete rotations in inpatient pediatrics, geriatrics, pediatric ER, obstetrics, and ICU in Ann Arbor. Residents may also utilize their electives to rotate at the Ann Arbor campus.
Yes. The office and the hospital are both equipped with the same EPIC electronic medical record.
Yes. After completion of the second year, residents in good standing are allowed to moonlight at the discretion of the program director.
